Select your Business Name

One of your most important decisions will occur very early in the process -- the selection of a name for your business.  Your accountant and attorney can better help you understand all of the laws and regulations, but the following may offer some help.

Ideally, your business name should match or tie in very closely with the name of your website.  First choice of a business website domain name usually includes .com.  Second choice includes .net.  If you can "lock up" both, that's even better!

While we cannot help you with the creative portion of the selection of your company name, we can offer you two tools which will save you time.

1. Website Domain Name Search

We discuss website issues on a different page, but the following link gives you a very useful tool in choosing a domain name.  Click the image below to visit bluehost.com.  Then click "Domain Check" on the left side to discover the availability of the name you desire.  This is a free service and you are under no obligation to this company:

BlueHost

2. State of Florida Business Name Search

By clicking the sunbiz.org image below, you may visit the State of Florida Division of Corporations.  Online databases can be searched to determine whether the business name you desire is already taken.  Not every form of business is included, but the following are in the databases:

- Corporations
- Trademarks
- Limited Partnerships
- Limited Liability Companies
- Fictitious Names
- Limited Liability and General Partnerships

While this service is only for the State of Florida, other states have similar services.
